Factors to Look Out for When Buying a Short Wig

Texture

The texture of a short wig is extremely important. The texture will give you an idea of how much time will be needed to style and the overall quality of the hair. Common textures for short wigs are straight and curly.

Finding out whether the wig has any sort of heat resistance is helpful in picking a texture. You may be able to achieve more than one style with just one wig just by adding heat.

The texture can affect how well the wefts are covered as well as the overall natural look. Curly units often require less effort and offer a throw on and go look. If you decide on a straight texture, the unit can fall flat and not blend as well.

Price

A general rule of thumb is the less material used, the cheaper the price. Since the hair on the unit is short, you can usually get away with a cheaper price tag. A typical short wig is priced well under $100.

Consider the type of hair used on the unit. If the wig is made from synthetic materials, the unit should be significantly cheaper than human hair.

While many customizations aren’t available for shorter units, an upcharge may come up. Shorter units often have a variety of different color choices. A specific color may have an additional fee.

Bang Area

Shorter wigs typically don’t have the hairline exposed. This makes them a great option for beginners. The hair usually falls in a way to hide the hairline or bangs are put in place.

While a lot of short wigs don’t have lace, it’s a great added protection to ensure the unit looks natural. The ideal unit will generally have lace along with bangs or the option to style to hair over the hairline.

If a unit doesn’t have bangs, you may need to spend more time styling. Depending on your lifestyle, this may be a total negative.

FAQ

What type of short wig is the best?

Short pixie-like wigs are often made from synthetic fibers. They allow the user to easily install the wig with little to no care for the unit. This being said, as with any other type of unit, human hair is often a better choice. Human hair allows you to manipulate the hair and style it exactly as you please. Keep in mind you will likely have to pay more for a human hair wig.

What is a capless wig?

A capless wig means exactly that, the cap is omitted from the unit. Instead, wefts are sewn onto strips of elastic that are a replacement of a cap. The hair generally has to be thick enough to ensure you can’t see the various gaps throughout the unit. Lace is another feature that may be missing from a capless unit.

Is it okay to wear a short wig everyday?

Just like any other type of wig, the most important factor isn’t how many days you wear the unit but how you take care of your natural hair. Wigs are a protective style and the main goal is generally to care for the hair that’s under the unit. As long as you maintain the natural hair, wearing a short wig shouldn’t pose a problem.

Closing

Short wigs are a go to summer style and are a great option for beginners. They are typically affordable and have the ability to be styled in a variety of different ways.

Consider the price, texture, and hairline prior to a short wig purchase. These factors will aid in you picking the perfect unit for your specific lifestyle. Remember you don’t always have to break the bank to find a quality wig.
